Crunch edge Gold Miners 4-3 in Cochrane

COCHRANE, Ont. – A Darian Harris goal five and a half minutes into the third period proved to be the game-winner as the Cochrane Crunch went on to edge the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners 4-3 Friday evening in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up at Tim Horton Event Centre.

Alex Brisson’s first NOJHL tally gave the Crunch the early lead as he notched the lone marker of the first frame at 17:58.

Each side would connect twice in the middle session with Haiden Karnick and Konnar Dechaine putting Cochrane up 3-0 before Tyler Fyfe and Kevin Ford countered for Kirkland Lake to pull the vistors to within one heading into the third.

In the final period, Harris added to the lead for the home side to put them up by two.

Brandan Carr-Ansh brought the Gold Miners closer with 4:03 to go, but the Crunch tightened up defensively from there to secure the win.

Taylor Unruh made 20 stops to register the victory for the Crunch while Ridge Gerads was peppered with 46 shots in defeat for Kirkland Lake.
