Courchesne and the Miners Ground the Eagles

At the Joe Mavrinac Community Complex in Kirkland Lake, the fourth place (17 – 7 – 2 – 1) Gold Miners hosted the eighth place (9 – 15 – 0 – 1) Soo Eagles, Saturday in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action.

GoldMiner Marc – Antoine Arseneau, with his 16th of the season, at 15:14 of the first from Brandon Wolfe and Brett Ouderkirk, opened the scoring.Then, after a scoreless 2nd, with Eagles netminder Jack Hickey pulled for an extra attacker, Logan Fredericks capped the 2 – 0 shutout win with an emptynetter, Evan Bidenti and Blake Anderson drew the helpers on Frederick’s 17th on the season with eight seconds left in the contest.

Victor – Olivier Courchesne earned his first shutout in GoldMiner jersey with a 25 save effort in the win.

GoldMiner Logan Fredericks told the Junior Hockey Network that “both goalies played well tonight. We had a great game defensively and having Victor come back strong from injury, was a great boost for both him and the team.”

“I think we played well ,we do have a lot of things to work on and that all starts with practice and coming up this week we will be working on them, but overall our guys played well and we were able to get the job done, with 2 wins this weekend,” said Fredericks.

The 3 Stars tonite were, #3 Dylan Holt, #2 Soo netminder Jack Hickey, & the 1st Star & Goldland Pizza Player of the Game, Victor-Olivier Courchesne.

Kirkland Lake will head to Iroquois Falls on December 11th to face the Eskimos at 7:30 p.m at the Jus Jordan Arena, before hosting the Espanola Express next Saturday, Dec 12th.

Next Saturday is also Food Bank Night, as we ask all in attendance to bring a non-perishable item, for the KL Food Bank.
