Aubertin leads Gold Miners past Blackhawks

MATTAWA – Ryan Aubertin tallied twice and added a pair of assists to help lead the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners to a 7-3 victory over the Mattawa Blackhawks in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play Sunday at Mike Rodden Arena.

The visitors notched the lone goal of the opening 20 minutes thanks to Connor Thie 5:55 into the session.

The two sides then combined for five markers in the middle stanza, with three of them supplied by the Gold Miners.

Aubertin, Vincent Currao and Ethan Strong were the Kirkland Lake marksmen while Tyler Broderson and Brett Ouderkirk replying for Mattawa.

The Gold Miners added three more in the third off the sticks of Aubertin, Dylan Rosen and Thie to make it 7-2 before Zach Nadeau picked up one late to round out the scoring.

Steven Babin had an assist for the winners in the game to extend a consecutive game point streak to 13 straight.

Josh Erickson picked up the win in net for the Gold Miners finishing with 23 saves.

Joe Sheppard and Josh Horner both saw time in net for the Blackhawks with the duo combining to face 60 shots against.

NOJHL action continues Wednesday on two fronts as Blind River visits Sudbury while Sault Ste. Marie entertains Elliot Lake.
