Albrecht pots pair as Kirkland Lake wins at French River

FRENCH RIVER – A two-goal performance, including his 20th of the season, from Nicklas Albrecht sent the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners on their way to a 5-1 victory over the French River Rapids Saturday in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play Noelville Arena.

The game’s first marker came 13:14 into the match-up as the Rapids’ Abram Snider zipped a high shot over the shoulder of Gold Miners Keaton Lyons.

Moving to the second stanza, Kirkland Lake came back to level the proceedings, just past the eight-minute mark of the session, when Luciano Supino made a sharp pass right on the tape of Albrecht in the high slot where he quickly ripped an attempt that got by French River netminder Justin DiLauro for his 20th.

The guests then took the lead at 15:43 on Camille Marcoux’s 10th, which came moments after he won a draw in French River territory and was set-up by Supino.

It was more Gold Miners before the intermission thanks to Chance DeBolt chipping one in from the top of the crease.

Albrecht added some insurance for Kirkland Lake midway through the third as he made a strong power move to the net and buried his second of the night.

The Gold Miners’ Jacob Hiltz capped off the road win with three and a half minute left by blasting in a loose puck from the top of the crease to round out the night’s scoring.

Supino finished with a trio of helpers for Kirkland Lake.

Lyons picked up the win, making 37 saves for the visitors while DiLauro faced 55 shots in suffering the setback.
