2 apiece for Babin, Strong and Romain as Gold Miners top Beavers

BLIND RIVER – The Kirkland Lake Gold Miners trio of Steven Babin, Ethan Strong and Tyler Romain had two goals apiece as the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners upended the Blind River Beavers 7-3 Saturday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League contest Saturday held at the Blind River Community Centre.

Kirkland Lake grabbed a 2-0 lead after one period of play on markers by Jeremy Picard-Fiset at even strength and Babin on the power play.

Babin’s second of the evening 6:07 into the second made it 3-0 while a Strong man advantage midway through the affair added to the Gold Miners cushion.

Blind River battled back on tallies by Jake Schultz and Alex Hulford to get back into it, only to see Strong connect once again on the power play to put the visitors up 5-2 through 40 minutes.

Romain then tacked on his two in the finale frame before the Beavers’ Nathan Hans round out the scoring with 2:43 to go.

Defenceman Picard-Fiset finished with a big night for the Gold Miners tacking on three assists to go along with his goal.

Devon Debastos has 28 saves to secure the win for Kirkland Lake, who fired 42 shotson Blind River netminder Zachary Mills.
