Viberg scores 3, Unruh stops 32 as Crunch blank Gold Miners

KIRKLAND LAKE, Ont. – The Kirkland Lake Gold Miners got three goals from Nate Viberg while Taylor Unruh stopped all 32 shots he faced to post his first Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League shutout as the Cochrane Crunch blanked the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners 6-0 Friday evening at the Joe Mavrinac Community Complex.

Viberg started the scoring for Cochrane 7:12 into the contest supplying the lone tally of the first period.

He then added his second of the night six and a half minutes into the middle stanza to put the visitors up by two.

The Crunch kept coming and picked up a couple other markers in the session to extend their cushion as Nicolas Flanders and Kyle Herbster both connected.

Action in the third saw Viberg finish off his hat trick at 9:02 to reach the 20-goal plateau on the season before Haiden Karnick rounded out things offensively for Cochrane a couple of shifts later.

Connor Lovie chipped in with a pair of assists to aid the Crunch cause.

Ridge Gerads faced 40 attempts in net for Kirkland Lake in defeat.
