GALLERY: Timmins tames Kirkland Lake 5-1

TIMMINS, Ont. – The Timmins Rock picked up goals from five different skaters Saturday evening using a well-balanced attack to defeat the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners 5-1 in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up in front of 768 fans at McIntyre Arena.

Timmins got going offensively 2:41 into the contest as Tyler Planetta notched his first marker of the year.

The Rock then got the eventual game-winner later in the first period on a Jordan Picard effort at 11:19.

Planetta would set-up A.J. Campbell early in the middle stanza to put the home side up by three before teammate Seth Reuben made it 4-0 a couple of shifts later.

Damian Carigni got one back for Kirkland Lake near the midway point of the contest before Timmins’ Jace Soroko rounded out the night’s scoring at 11:33 of the frame during a Rock power play.

Timmins goaltender Eric Jackson made 20 saves in registering the win.

Ryan Winter suffered the loss in net for the Gold Miners as he gave up four against on 16 shots while Cade McEwen stopped 20 of 21 in over 36 minutes of relief.
