GALLERY: Lumberjacks roll to victory over Miners

KIRKLAND LAKE, Ont. – The Hearst Lumberjacks came back from a second period deficit by notching the game’s final half dozen markers en route to a 6-1 victory over the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners Sunday afternoon in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League matinee at the Joe Mavrinac Community Complex.

Kirkland Lake took advantage of an early power play to get on the board first as Noah Benjamin connected during the man advantage 4:18 into the first frame.

Hearst drew level 1:44 into the middle stanza thanks to Austin Anselmo’s fifth goal of the campaign.

The Lumberjacks came right back with another 24 seconds later on a Max Griffioen effort, which turned out to be the eventual game-winner.

Later in the frame the visitors added another when Spencer Silver picked up his 11th of the year at 16:55.

Hearst kept coming in the third to put the game away starting with a pair of Max Johnson tallies to go up by four.

Dominick Lavergne would round out the scoring for the visitors with 7:14 to go to finish off the road decision.

Shadow Reuben aided the Lumberjacks offensive cause with two assists.

Matt Kustra made 21 saves to record the win for Hearst.

Cade McEwen started for the Gold Miners and suffered the loss making 32 stops on 38 attempts while Ryan Winter handled both shots he saw in over seven minutes of relief.
