GoldMiners Prepping for 2016-2017 Season

With the announcement of a new Executive in place, the Kirkland Lake GoldMiners are full speed ahead getting ready for the 2016-2017 Season. New President Colin Hudson, and Vice President of Hockey Operations, former President Jim Taylor, will lead a great group of volunteers on board for the new season.

Coach & GM Marc Lafleur has been hard at it on the recruiting trail, look for announcements of multiple player signings in the next week, as paperwork is completed, making transactions official. The Club will have somewhat of a new look, as Blake Anderson, Brandon Wolfe & Logan Fredericks have graduated & will begin play in the NCAA in the fall, as well goaltender Joe Marcouiller has signed with the USHL’s Fargo Force, Kyle Lamont is headed to University in the Maritimes, not to mention, Jamey Lauzon, Marc Audet & Arthur Miller being picked up by Major Jr teams in mid-season.

And the likes of Kam Shearer, Evan Bidenti, Joel Fortin & Andrew Cordssen-David will be attending Major Jr camps as well.

Goaltender Tyler Mazzocato asked to be traded to a Southern Ontario club, so he could combine school & hockey, we have traded Tyler to the Elmira Sugar Kings. Jesse Houlton wanted to be closer to home, so we traded Jesse to the Huntsville Otters.

With the Club hosting the Dudley-Hewitt Cup, then electing a new Executive, we are about a month behind where we would like to be.

– season ticket, flex pack & single game pricing will be announced shortly.

– our season ticket & flex pack drive will be announced shortly as well.

The NOJHL schedule is in the final approval phase, looks like a 54 game schedule and it will be slightly more balanced than last year.

Each club plays 8 games vs teams in their own division, 4 home  4 away.

We will play our closest rival, Timmins, 10 times, 5 home 5 away.

As far as crossing over, we will play each team in the Western Division twice,  home & away.

Vice President  of Hockey Operations, Jim Taylor, says this new sked is designed to cut some travel costs, which for some teams reached 50 thousand dollars last season. ” this year we will have 2, 3 game road trips, whereas in the past, we’ve had as many as 6.”

New President Colin Hudson along with VP of Hockey Ops Jim Taylor, are enthused with the new additions to our Board of Directors, good people with new, fresh ideas.

It should be a fun year at the Joe, as your GoldMiners look to defend their Eastern Division title and make another run at the Dudley-Hewitt Cup
