Gold Miners double up Beavers 6-3

KIRKLAND LAKE, Ont. – The Kirkland Lake Gold Miners got a goal and two assists from Tyler Fyfe along with a pair of tallies off the stick of their captain Ashton Amaya to help them double up the visiting Blind River Beavers 6-3 Sunday afternoon in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at the Joe Mavrinac Community Complex.

Blind River opened the scoring 3:39 into the contest on a Yianni Liarakos effort 3:39 in only to see Amaya tie it three minutes later during a man advantage opportunity.

Fyfe then put Kirkland Lake in front just 20 seconds later with his fourth of the season.

The Beavers knotted the affair at 2-2 at 17:02 thanks to Jordan Kreller as the two sides headed to the dressing rooms tied after one period of play.

Blind River would go on top again early in the second compliments of Cole Peck, but the Gold Miners countered with efforts from Austin Ramirez and Stavros Soilis, who struck shorthanded supplying the eventual game-winner, to put the home side in front by one heading into the third.

In the final frame Amaya his second power play marker of the day at 11:32 before Matthew Brassard iced it with a late man-down, empty netter to round out the scoring.

Alex Storjohann chipped in with two assists for the winners.

Jeffrey Veitch made 25 saves to record the decision for Kirkland Lake while Myles Hektor faced 31 shots in defeat for the Beavers.
