Fyfe helps lead Gold Miners past Rapids

NOELVILLE, Ont. – Kirkland Lake Gold Miners forward Tyler Fyfe scored his club’s first goal as well as their last and added an assist in between to help lead his side to an 8-4 victory over the French River Rapids Thursday night in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League contest at Noelville Arena.

Michael Cotton’s first NOJHL tally gave French River the lead 12:06 into the contest only to see Fyfe know the affair just over three minutes later to make it 1-1 after one.

There was plenty of offensive production in the second stanza as Kirkland Lake notched four markers while the Rapids added three of their own to make it a 6-4 game in favour of the visitors after 40 minutes.

The Gold Miners’ Austin Anselmo started the goal parade 19 seconds into the session before Tyler Planetta picked up his initial league effort at 1:25 for the home side.

Lucas Dolanjski and Matthew Brassard then chipped in for Kirkland Lake before Planetta added another for the Rapids at 12:56.

Quick strikes 27 seconds apart, starting with Brandon Carr-Anah of the Gold Miners and French River’s Adrian Nicholas’ first of the season, finished off the scoring outburst in the frame.

It was all Gold Miners in the third period however as they tacked on three unanswered to secure the win with Alex Storjohann, Ashton Amaya and Fyfe doing the damage.

Storjohann also dished out three assists to aid the Kirkland Lake cause.

Jeffrey Veitch stopped 23 of the 26 attempts he saw to record the victory for the Gold Miners while Victor-Olivier Courchesne handled 16 of 17 in just over 27 minutes of relief.

Scott Adams was pelted with 60 shots in defeat for the Rapids.
