Gold Miners’ Fredericks commits to NCAA D-III champion Wisconsin-Stevens Point

KIRKLAND LAKE, Ont. – The Kirkland Lake Gold Miners of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League have announced that all-star forward Logan Fredericks has committed to attend school at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens-Point and play for the NCAA D-III champion Pointers starting in the fall.

The 20-year-old native of Millstone Township, N.J. is coming off a tremendous 2015-16 campaign for the Gold Miners.

Fredericks was named a NOJHL CCM Hockey first team all-star at left wing after leading all league skaters in goals with 51.

He also finished third overall in the NOJHL in points with 89 and paced all players in power play markers with 15.

The league’s Gongshow Gear player of the month for February was only held off the score sheet once in his final 20 regular season games and supplied six game-winning goals overall.

In playoff action he put up another 14 points, including seven tallies, to finish tied for fourth in postseason production.

Meanwhile at the Dudley-Hewitt Cup, Fredericks led all players among the four competing sides in goals with five and finished tied for second in points with those markers.

Fredericks will be joining a Stevens-Point side that boasts two other Gold Miners alumni on their roster.

Former Kirkland Lake defencemen Ethan Strong and Ryan Scherer were on the UWSP Pointers side that won this season’s NCAA D-III title.
