Ex Gold Miner Bishop to play in U.S.

KIRKLAND LAKE - Another member of last year’s NOJHL Champion Kirkland Lake Gold Miners will be playing U.S. College hockey.

Kyle Bishop has signed with Lindenwood University-Belleville (Belleville Illinois), and he could not be more excited.

Bishop spoke to the Northern News about the signing and his time with the Miners, as well as living in Kirkland Lake.

“First I would like to thank the Kirkland Lake Gold Miner organization for everything they have done for me these past two years. Also I would like to thank Dave and Debbie Bolger for opening their home to me and treating me like their own son, I couldn’t have asked for a better billet and they have become a part of my family for the rest of my life. Thanks to the town of KL for opening their town to myself and my fellow Gold Miners. It was a great experience, everyone was so nice and welcoming. As a kid you dream of being a champion and the Gold Miners had their priorities straight. I am very glad I got to finish my Jr. Career as a champion with such an amazing organization and community. I am looking forward to taking the next step and playing college hockey next year with Lindenwood University-Belleville. It is going to be a tough transition at first but I look forward to the challenge.”

Upon hearing the news, Gold Miners’ General Manager and Head Coach Marc Lafleur was thrilled.

“We’re extremely happy for Kyle, he is a good guy. They are going to be getting a player that is terrific at killing penalties and someone that is going to add a lot of energy to the team.”

It should be noted Bishop will have some familiar faces in the lineup with them. Former North Bay Trappers Brandon Janke and Duaine Wainman as well as Former Espanola Riverman Brad Edwards all recently signed with Lindenwood.

“I am excited to call these guys my teammates”, says Bishop.
